Trying to pre-empt Mike with his endless fascination with Google Translate 🙂 Intrigued by the Director’s name Pearlrice Sakagami, I wanted to check if this was a machine translation or if the Director really wished to be known by that name (or if it was indeed the name given to him by his parents). Grabbing his Japanese name from another site and spinning it in Google Translate, we have: パールライス坂上 = Pāruraisu Sakagami Which is intriguing, as this clearly indicates that the Director has Japanized (or Nihongoed) the English phrase “pearl rice” and that became Pāruraisu (just as Beatle became Bitoru, the well endowed JAV actor Wolf Tanaka became Wurufu Tanaka). But the idea of pearl rice is an Asian concept and so why did this happen. So, I tried the reverse to see if there is a native Japanese phrase for pearl rice. Nope, I only got Pāruraisu back. Trying it with Chinese, you get 珍珠米 = Zhēnzhūmǐ.
