up until now i was convinced she’s been underserved by shoddy concepts and poor direction, but in the first scene here her acting really is quite bad. right on the edge of that “can’t stop smiling in a serious scene” problem. she still looks fantastic and it’s not quite dire enough to ruin the action, but i see now why she’s had a hard time making it in the big leagues so far.

that first early hit video where she’s playing a reluctant housekeeper is still her best work by far – maybe she just needs to focus on “cold stare”/awkward silence roles, since she seems to have little trouble staying in character for those. she should probably also take some acting lessons for longevity’s sake, but for now i just hope she returns to that kind of story and really specializes in it for a few years.
