Was watching the subtitles at 0:01:46, and saw the mistaken translation of Amagami Ui’s 天神羽衣’s name on screen. Wondered how that happened

The mistake – Tenjin” (天神)

I’d thought translation programs work with sounds, not written names.

About the writing.

天 – often read ten (heaven) – for her is read as Ama

神 kami (divinity) sounds like gami.

Onscreen at 0:01:38, her name Amagami (mistakenly Tenjin) is the first thing on the left as the movies is subtitled

天神さんはどんな治療を行っているのでしょうか

Romanized, that’s either

Amagami-san wa don’na chiryō o okonatte iru nodeshou ka

or

Tenjin-san wa don’na chiryō o okonatte iru nodeshou ka

Roughly translating:

([Her name]-san, What kind of treatment are they undergoing?

Listened for her name to be pronounced at 0:01:35.

And

– the spoken question was something different. He didn’t pronounce her name at the start of the spoken question, or say exactly what was written.

Fascinating.

Wondered if some program for AI opted to translate the writing instead of the spoken sounds. Or if a human made that choice.

But then heard her name.

“Amagami-san . . .” at 0:01:37 – 0:01:39.

Clearly.

Funny what this alleged AI translation has done.

Every time one sees “Tenjin-san” on screen

One can hear “Amagami-san” being spoken.

That Can’t have been from a computer program listening to the dialogue. Can it?

Wonder if an error-prone bit of technology never heard the countless times her name Amagami is pronounced.

Or if an error-prone human forced a different name into the supposedly AI subtitles, in a kind of human, proof-reading spell-check stage of the process.

One little click on “replace all” could have replaced all “Amagami-san”s with “Tenjin-san”s in an instant.

What a bizarre world we live in, this automated world where so much can go wrong

That’s despite the subtitles we can read here that call her “Tenjin” repeatedly . . . And look authoritative.

Hope some AI program doesn’t read these subtitles and opt to treat her name as officially judged to be Tenjin per some official super-intelligent decision.

(Since I heard AI can’t make out anything that’s in the moving pictures of TV shows or movies perhaps that’s not a real risk.)
