Love Mukai Ai. Love this classic series
Indeed Mike, this series is what defined the Attackers studio in my book.
Hadn’t studied this version of the series yet when I typed that first comment.
Now I’m totally creeped-out.
At the end, as they kiss, the movie cuts to the feet of two dead male bodies, I believe the first intruder whose death is filmed, and the husband.
The shot shows feet in socks, apparently the husband’s feet, next to the bare foot dead intruder at 1:45:04 as the movie ends. That shocked me.
The husband’s shoes and socks were shown at 1:08:38 (shoes – with socks just before that) leaving for work. – which is just before the husband’s last living appearance in the movie, By 1:09:38, after a dining scene, believe he’s gone for good.
Seemed to me that the shot of the husband putting on his shoes at 1:08:38 was a kind of Chekhov’s Gun shot. (Chekhov’s Gun is a fundamental principle in storytelling, particularly in drama, that states every element introduced into a story should be essential to the narrative and contribute to the overall plot or character development.)
I don’t understand if Mukai Ai knows her husband is dead, or was even in on it, or how the two bodies were moved (it looked like to the roof) . . .
It easy to see the killing of the knife wielding intruder early in the movie. 0:02:53
But the husband’s killing would be an off-screen killing, it seemed. . .
I’m not going to jump to conclusions. Going to wait to read it subtitled.
But – is she kissing the intruder Yoshio Umeda at the end, knowing he has murdered her husband too, not just that he killed the other knife-wielding first intruder? (at 0:02:53). Could she have been in on her own husband’s murder?
I’m just totally creeped-out.
There was no romantic walking out of her life as she stared stoically, knowing she’d miss him. Not this movie.
PS. Saw credits for two actors (at 1:45:14, just after the dead men’s feet shot) Tadashi Suzuki and Seiichiro Akagi. Not sure who was the husband, and who was the earlier, dead intruder.

They’ve been pretty lame lately but I’m hoping with all the poaching directed at Madonna and the exodus, they’ll revive the studio and get back to their great days.
