The word lesbian is the demonym of the Greek island of Lesbos, home to the 6th-century BCE poet Sappho. Historians have gathered that a group of young women were left in Sappho’s charge for their instruction or cultural edification. Sappho’s poetry reflects topics she wrote about: women’s daily lives, their relationships, and rituals. She focused on the beauty of women and proclaimed her love for girls.

Use of the word lesbianism to describe erotic relationships between women had been documentedw, with the terms lesbian, invert and homosexual interchangeable with sapphist and sapphism.

Sapphism is an umbrella term for any woman attracted to women or in a relationship with another woman, regardless of their sexual orientations, and encompassing the romantic love between women. The term is inclusive of individuals who are lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, aromantic, asexual, or queer.

It’s possible that the Japanese use of the tag does not mean what you think of when you post these posts
