When I was in Japan years ago visiting a friend in Nagoya, I really only saw women employed for the most part as janitors or sex workers. (Was quite a culture shock after living in large cities in the USA)

Seeing Arisu Mai working as a janitor here brought back so many memories of it all.

An incredibly cute version of what I saw. . .

Well, Mike… my sister-in-law, who’s lived in Japan all her life, … is an opthalmic surgeon. So I guess she didn’t opt for the ‘sex-work’ or the ‘janitor’ thing.

Glad to hear it.

Perhaps my culture shock would have been less if my friend who was doing graduate studies at Nagoya University had socialized in circles like that. . .

Alas, the only parts of Nagoya I saw were the parts my friend knew and could afford on a grad student’s budget

(I saw women working as janitors in Nagoya McDonalds because that’s where my friend took me )

BTW, I was remembering 1988 Nagoya.

It’s entirely possible that things have changed substantially since I was in Nippon/Nihon

Curious. Do you know the year your sister-in-law finished school and became able to practice?

PS

The sex-worker I remember had a job I’d never seen in the USA, that I hadn’t known existed.

And the way she was dressed looked like the “janitor” costume at the beginning of this movie.

It was in a very expensive sushi/karaoke place in Nagoya that had men only as allowed customers. When I used the restroom, there she was, with a towel, ready to clean me or pleasure me or both after I’d used the urinal.

I hadn’t realized it. My friend and the professor he worked for explained it to me once I was out of the restroom and back to them
