It feels like most JAV back then was a bit timid focusing on the purity of romance, there were obviously the few rapey ones but mostly it was timid.
Over the time the the industry got bigger and bigger, releasing so many AVs they started running out of ideas, competing over the next big hit which resulted in what we have now, they see the recipe that works and keep cooking it over and over with different actresses (series), I don’t think it’s a bad thing, just sad to see the old gems like this disappear.
